| Dhaka, Jan 8 (bdprem.com)--BNP acting chairman M Saifur Rahman Tuesday told visiting British Conservative Party members that detained party chairman Khaleda Zia would be freed through the legal process. Saifur met with visiting Conservative Party members, MP Margaret Anne Main and Borough Councillor of London's Tower Hamlets John Timothy Archer. They discussed the country's political situation, the work of the Election Commission and the issue of detained politicians including Khaleda Zia. Former finance minister Saifur told bdnews24.com after the meeting: "They wanted to know about the release of Khaleda Zia." "I said that our leader would be freed through the legal process. We hope that she will get justice in the court." "We want that our leader gets released through the justice system." Acting secretary general Hafizuddin Ahmed was also present during the meeting. Later briefing journalists at his Banani home, Hafiz said: "It was a courtesy call. They exchanged views on the issues of interest to both the countries." "The release of the BNP chairperson and the issue of elections came up during the discussion," he said. Replying to a question, the acting secretary general said: "Whether Khaleda Zia will go abroad depends on her. Nothing will happen against her will." The visiting British delegation also met with BNP leader Khandaker Delwar Hossain Sunday, to discuss the upcoming elections and the political situation. |
