Govt approves import of 1.07 lakh tonnes of rice, wheat

Dhaka, Dec 17 (bdprem.com)—The government has approved a plan for the import of 1.07 lakh tonnes of food grains—74,000 tonnes of rice and 33,000 tonnes of wheat—at a cost of Tk 305 crore. Your Ad Here A meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchase, chaired by finance and commerce adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam, approved the purchase plan Monday. Both the rice and wheat imports will be undertaken by floating local tenders, Azizul told reporters after the meeting. The purchase cost of rice is between Tk 26.77 and Tk 27.95 per kg and that of wheat, Tk 30.68, the adviser said. Local importers will deliver the grains directly to government warehouses.
