Sabina Yasmin makes a comeback

Leading artistes perform at 'Batexpo Night'

After treatment for her ailment the 'Nightingale of Bangladesh' Sabina Yasmin made a comeback at the two-day 'Batexpo Night' concert at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel. The cultural programme was held on the first two days of the three-day Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (Batexpo), which began on November 15.

Besides Sabina Yasmin, leading artistes of the country Ayub Bachchu and James rendered songs at Batexpo Night. Another attraction of the two-day Batexpo Night programme was a performance by leading Indian singer Alka Yagnik. Moreover, popular film actor Riaz performed in a short play.

On November 16, events began with the welcome speech delivered by Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). After the welcome speech, models presented a colourful exhibition of the apparels on the ramp.

The catwalk display was followed by a remarkable performance by Ayub Bachchu and his band. Bachchu presented two songs: Ek akasher tara and Ural dibo akashey. Bachchu's improvisation on guitar during the second song with the drums was enjoyable.

After the band performance a short play titled Fazaler Galpo, written by Mominul Islam and directed by Abu Rezwan Eureka, was presented. The play features the story of Fazal and his wife Parul, who become solvent by working in a garment factory.

Film star Riaz, Joytika Joyty, Shirin Alam and Maruf Mithu performed as different characters of the play.

Sabina Yasmin stepped on to the stage singing the first line of her popular patriotic song Janmo amar dhonya holo maago. Later, she thanked the people of Bangladesh for their constant support as she underwent treatment in Singapore.

Sabina gave a soulful presentation of her popular songs such as Tumi chokher aral hou, Eki shonar aloy, Premey porechhe mon and Shey jey keno elo na.

Sabina Yasmin was followed by James. James rendered his popular numbers such as Diwana diwana, Maa and Bhigi bhigi, a playback the of Hindi film Gangster rendered by him.

Later Chetan Rana from Mumbai, India, rendered Subhan-allah, a popular Hindi film song.





Alka Yagnik was the last attraction of the night. Before her performance, Alka expressed deep shock at the loss of lives and properties caused by the severe cyclonic storm that lashed the country on the night of November 15.

She began her performance singing Bara achchha lagta hey, a playback of Hindi blockbuster movie Tere Naam. She then presented popular Hindi movie songs like Zara tasvir se tu, Odni, You are my Sonya and others.

Rupkotha Productions Limited was in management charge of the cultural programmes.
