Mayor Tayebur grabbed 2 acre land in Daulatpur, victim alleges

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman and four others including a police official grabbed two acres of land of a Hindu family at Maheshwar-pasha under Daulatpur police station in Khulna city in 1999. The mayor is detained on corruption charges.

The land belonged to Biswa Nath Munshi, son of late Govinda Chandra Munshi of Mahesh-warpasha.

Biswa Nath Munshi made the allegation at a press conference at Khulna Press Club yesterday. He describer Tayebur as a 'land grabber'.

Bishwa Nath said that the mayor with the help of four persons grabbed their two acres of land in 1999 in the name of construction of a graveyard, a community store room, a health clinic and a kitchen market.

Bishwa Nath claimed that in support of occupation of the land, the mayor could not show any document before the court of Sub-judge Saiful Islam in 2001. The court asked the Mayor to show legal documents but he defied the court order, Bishwa Nath claimed.

He also alleged in the press conference that the mayor and his cadres threatened him and members of his family several times for withdrawing the case.

“The mayor and his associates in the land grabbing implicated me in several false cases filed with Daulatpur police station”, he said.

“Cadres of the mayor had stashed a firearm in my house in December last year to get me arrested. But they could not succeed in their attempt due to intervention by members of Rapid Action battalion (Rab)”, Bishwa Nath said.

“The mayor and his cadres implicated me in a false rape case, filed early this year with Khulna Special Court. The case is now under trial”, he said.

Biswa Nath demanded immediate intervention by law enforcing agencies to stop the 'harassment with false cases and recovery of the grabbed land' which he inherited from his father legally.

He also demanded punishment of the mayor and his associates who include a ward commissioner and a police sub-inspector.

Biswa Nath claimed that one of those who was involved in the land grabbing is a 'listed criminal' and chargesheeted accused in a double murder case.

He said party cadres of the mayor and the other accused are still threatening him and his family. He sought protection by law enforces.
